The geomembranes are produced polymer thin plain, the sheet with very low permeability, for efficient separation of the two materials in the construction industry. Are mainly used for waterproofing of underground water elements and construction are made from low density polyethylene (PE-LLD) or high density (PE-HD). Polyethylene material has the flexibility necessary must work without difficulty and its structure allows thermoplastic welds local heating, with or without filler. Also, polyethylene resists mold, penetration by microorganisms and plant roots. Polyethylene is a material safe for humans and animals in terms of health and does not affect the purity of drinking water.
VALPLAST polyethylene geomembranes are provided by ultraviolet radiation stabilized for a limited time and features the following table:

In most cases geomembranes are installed as geo respectively foil posed between two geotextiles for protection against mechanical stress.
Typical applications include geomembranes:
- sealing tanks or tanks for liquids (water, oil, chemical pollutants)
- seals the water channels
- waterproofing floors, terraces and foundations
- protection dikes or dams for water
- seals to tunneling
- seals the base and surface deposits of solid waste
For these applications, geocompozitele used must provide the functions of separation, filtration, protection and reinforcement and the importance of mechanical, hydraulic and durability in the technical evaluation of products proposed for use is determined by standards EN ISO 13254 (ponds and protective dikes) EN ISO 13255 (flow channels) and EN ISO 13257 (solid waste storage).
